The photography courses are year long courses at this high school. A student may elect to take this course for more than one year. There are Photo I, II, and III levels offered to the students. The Photo I students learn the basics of the black and white darkroom. They also learn something about experimenting with materials such as litho film, pin hole cameras, and hand coloring prints. Photo II and III students also work with straight black and white prints. However, there is more emphasis on experimenting as well as working with alternative processes (cyanotypes, casein prints, and acrylic lifts).
All students are expected to bring an idea and or personal approach to each of their photography assignments. A student is usually expected to turn in one print a week. Each student works on building a portfolio of their work.
