Ellen J. Bowen is the
director of the nationally known Pointe Singers Show and Classical
ensemble from Grosse Pointe South , mother of two daughters, Traci
and Amy and Grandmother to three boys, Quin, Evan, and Deagan. The
Pointe Singers under Ellen’s direction group has won three
Showstoppers Grand Championships and was Honors Choir for
Showstoppers at the Marriott Marquis in New York City 2002-2005 as
well as at Disney in 2007 . The Pointe Singers have been featured
performers with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for over 50
performances and will again in December of 2008 be featured in the
DSO Holiday Pops Concerts Dec. 18-21st. . Most recently the choirs
have performed with the Professional Detroit Chamber Winds
throughout the Detroit Metropolitan area where on Dec. 14th, 2998
they will again perform together at Christ Church, Grosse Pointe.
Ellen’s groups have performed throughout Russia, Romania, Spain,
Italy, Germany, Austria, Prague, and again Spain in ‘08. Her groups
have also appeared at many ACDA, MENC, and MSVMA conventions.
Ellen also is the Music Theater director at South as she also was at
Macomb Community College. She has also conducted National Equity
Tours of “Camelot”, “Hello Dolly” and “Gypsy”, college and
university productions as well as over 120 High school and community
shows. In 2003 her group presented the musical “She Loves Me” and
was awarded a main stage spot at the International Thespian
Festival. The South Thespian group was featured in the October 2003
issue of Dramatics Magazine, the International Thespian Publication.
Last year South’s production of Les Miserables was featured in USA
Today Magazine as the Top Musical in the State Of Michigan for 2008.

Ellen is a trained mezzo- soprano and has taught private voice
throughout the Metropolitan Detroit area. Presently she has over 20
former students in International opera companies, on Broadway or in
National television shows and films. She is a judge and a classical
clinician for the Michigan School Vocal Music Association, the 1990
Caroline Leep Scholarship Award Winner from the Michigan School
Vocal Music. She has been listed in Who’s Who in Education twelve
different times and the Governor of Michigan and the City Council
and Mayor of Grosse Pointe Farms awarded her outstanding citizen
awards. In 2004 the Grosse Pointe Rotary awarded her the Outstanding
Vocational Award. In February of 2003 Ellen was awarded Outstanding
Woman of Wayne County during the Women’s History Month. She has been
on the State Board for Both the Michigan School Vocal Music
Association and the American Choral Directors Association. Ellen
also was the Chairperson of the Music Curriculum Committee in Grosse
Pointe and the Chairperson for the Humanities curriculum committee
at Macomb Community College.
Ellen has a BS from Ball State University in vocal performance ; MS
in Education from Butler University, Master of Music in Orchestral
and Choral conducting from Oakland University and Post grad work in
Music Technology and Educational Administration from the University
of Michigan. She is the founder and developer of a 26 station music
technology lab at Grosse Pointe South
