Dan White earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Wayne State University in 1988. As an undergraduate, he was principal saxophonist with the Wayne State University Symphony Band and lead alto saxophonist with the Wayne Jazz Lab band. With the Symphony Band, Mr. White was a featured soloist and performed a concert tour of Germany and Austria, and at national and international music education conventions in Los Angeles and Boston. He studied saxophone performance at Wayne with Jose' Mallare and Earl Deforest, and conducting with Dr. Joseph Labuta and Harold Arnoldi. Mr. White began his teaching career in the Lincoln Park Public Schools, where he directed elementary and middle school level bands for six years. While teaching in Lincoln Park, Mr. White was the recipient of the National PTA Distinguished Service Award in 1992. After joining the Grosse Pointe Public School System in 1995, he taught instrumental music at Richard and Maire Elementary Schools and Parcells and Pierce middle schools. Now at Grosse Pointe South High School, Mr. White directs the Concert, Symphony, Pep and Jazz Bands. In addition he teaches Music Theory, Music Appreciation, Music Technology, and Jazz Lab classes.
