A Winning Tradition

The athletic program at Grosse Pointe South High School is rich with tradition.  From the time South was "The High" to its back-to-back Girls' Lacrosse and Girls' Hockey State Championships, the athletic program has been a source of great pride for the school district and community.  We are understandably proud of our athletic program as it has withstood the test of time.

As proud as we are of the athletic achievements of our teams and student-athletes, we are even more proud of their academic successes.  Each year South is among the conference and state leaders in Academic All-State athletes, and MHSAA Scholar Athletes Award qualifiers and recipients.  Through the efforts and dedication of our excellent coaching staff, teaching staff, administrative team, and students and parents, our student-athletes are truly students first.

Included among the lessons to be learned from athletic competition are:  lifelong friendships, experiencing and learning team work, the development of sportsmanship as participant and spectator, goal setting, and competing with others as well as ones self.

Why Participate?

Nearly two/thirds of our student body participate on one of our interscholastic athletic teams or clubs.  It's a great way for students to have fun, develop new and lasting friendships, and experiences with students from other school districts.  According to recent student surveys, the number one reason students want to play sports for their school - "It's fun"!!

SEC. 3, any physical examination dated on or after April 15 will be honored for the coming year's athletic activities.  Click for a list of walk-in clinics.

A parent meeting will be held for a discussion of team rules and school regulations, the Athletic Code of Conduct and other pertinent information.

PARTICIPATION FEES

Due to the reduction in the District Athletic budget by $400,000 over the past two years, it has become necessary to charge a participation fee of $115 per athlete, per sport for those students wishing to participate in high school athletics.
